Bonjour!
The rubric may make no sense to you as it does to me when I read a post in my friend's blog emphasizing on "We all are selfish!". I strongly condemned his saying retorting that sometimes we care more of our dear ones just to see them happy and that ways we are indeed caring more of them of them and not us..so how does that makes us selfish? And his reply really left me flabbergasted as he said "we do that coz that makes us happy as well!" It took time but lately, I got into the depth and realized what he wanted to say..I was impressed!!
We generally don't do things that doesn't interests us and now here the moot point enters, does not doing something that is not in our interests justify our being selfish? Well it certainly does...
Okay! lets take it this way...The dictionary meaning of selfish says giving chief importance to one's own interests as compared to others interests. Don't we give primary importance to our own interest rather than others, though it may lead to someone's happiness that makes us smile, someone's sorrows coz we want to see him/her that way etc. Osama Bin Laden, one who epitomizes hedonism, it won't be wrong to categorize him as a selfish person as he killed thousands of innocent lives because it interests him, and most of you will agree with it. Now, let us consider the mogul Mother Teresa, she saved thousands of lives, showed a way to lacs of orphans coz she found peace in helping others. And if I say she was selfish, most of you would be ready to wallop me...u know why coz we usually misinterpret selfish as a negative word and thats where my friend got a point that it should not be considered as negative. It z a feeling that everyone of us has got, and though we don't aim it but most of the things we do comes out of our selfish nature!! Give it a thought...
au revoir(Goodbye!)
